Segerstrom Center for Performing Arts & Center Tower

This multipurpose theater is clad in Napoleon Red Swedish granite, quarried from a single striation of stone in Malmo, Sweden. From the quarry, the blocks of stone were shipped to Italy, where they were cut, polished, and honed to reveal a subtle gray hue. The dramatic five-story exterior features a massive proscenium arch, framing a dynamic sculpture entitled “Firebird,” with wings made up of a bold sweep of interweaving gold, silver, and red metallic strands. Adjacent to the Segerstrom Hall, Center Tower stands as a prominent and identifying feature in the business, cultural and social landscape of Orange County. Built in concert with the theatre, Carrara installed the steel support system & curvilinear stone facade of Center Tower.

This was the first project where Carrara self performed the structural steel support systems for its own stonework.
